2017 was a year of new challenges and expectations for the men's squad. New coach Jessie McCartney brought a higher level of organisation and structure to the group, with many new faces joining the squad as well. We introduced Thursday night dinners, video analysis of matches, some Athlete DISC work and a roster of 1st and 2nd team players to give training on Tuesdays - increasing the number of trainers on the pitch each session. We also had a much greater number of junior players making the step up to play first and second team hockey.
The 2018 season for our men's section had some fantastic highlights. The men's 1s made finals for the first time in 5 seasons, going down to eventual champions Werribee in the elimination final. The quality of the team's play for much of the season, particularly in defence, was greatly improved due to the hard work of the team over a long off-season and pre-season program. Our 2s missed out on finals by 1 point, and our 3’s won the Premiership and achieved promotion in to Pennant D. Our 4’s and 6’s had decent seasons but missed out on finals, and our super strong 5’s team won another convincing Premiership.
Looking at 2019, we will be fielding teams in;
Men's Vic League 2
Men's Vic League 2 Reserves
Our goals will continue to be to have the best hockey experience we can, and run all of our teams in the most effective and enjoyable way possible. With a total of 17 players under 21 playing in the top 2 grades last year - the future is very bright for the men's section at MHSOB!
The foundations were laid in 2017 for an improved culture and the building of a club we are proud to be a part of.
