masters hockey

The MHSOB Masters section welcomes new recruits to the club. If you are 43 (as at 1 Jan.) looking for a new start, contemplating a return to the game, starting out, or need an excuse to have a regular Monday night out playing hockey we would welcome you getting in touch with our masters coordinators.

We are a small dedicated bunch of die hard hockey players who enjoy getting out on a Monday evening and tearing up and down the turf (without hopefully tearing any muscles). It’s a great way to keep the fitness up in a casual and friendly setting. We currently have players coming from Gippsland, Warragul, Alexandra, and as well as other places near and far but on occasions struggle fielding both Monday night teams. More players will provide greater depth / flexibility and make us even more competitive.

In 2018, the MHSOB masters section fielded three teams (and we hope to do the same this year).

Two teams were fielded, the over 45 B and 45 D teams. Both teams had very successful years and played in their respective grand finals. Ultimately the 45 D won their Grand Final in an exciting shoot out while the 45 B team only lost two matches during the year (unfortunately the Grand Final was one of them).

Best & Fairest winner was Cam Newell, narrowly over Roland Dymond.

In 2018 we also entered a newly formed over 50’s team into the A grade competition on Wednesday nights. Some of the players playing in the 45’s competition valiantly doubled up and played in the Wednesday night comp too. The over 50’s team was competitive, winning 4 games, drawing 6 and losing 8 games to ultimately finished 7th on the ladder. Not a bad first season considering we didn’t have the depth of the bigger clubs and played short and injured a couple of times. (50 year old guys are hard to find!).

Best & Fairest winner was Andrew Goff narrowly over Phil Tanner.
