New Men's Coach

Introducing our new Coach

The MHSOBHC Committee would like to officially announce the appointment of our new Men’s Coach for 2015, welcoming Scottish International David Patterson to our Club.  David has been running training for two weeks now, and those who’ve participated have really enjoyed the intense, fun sessions, especially his positive, articulate and no nonsense communication of skills and tactics (many of you will have received his 3-page minutes of our squad meeting last Tuesday).  With over 40 in attendance last Tuesday (including 8 new players) and the resurrection of the serious Thursday skills sessions, members are already voting with their feet.  Since Round 1 is now less than two weeks away (!), please do your best to get on down to training, introduce yourself to David, and experience the vibe first-hand.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude to Jared Chaplin for his massive contributions as Men’s Coach over the past three years.  Chappy has truly become a 100% Melbourne High clubman who lives and breathes our culture both on and off the field; he has one of the finest hockey brains in Victoria, his analysis of the game is second to none, and he’s also an outstanding strike forward.  Chappy is stepping back and taking the opportunity to spend more time with his young family during the week; injuries notwithstanding we’re hoping he’ll still be able to manage a few more bags of goals for us again this year.

MHSOB’s 2010 SL3 Premiership Coach Grant McAskell is also stepping down after two years as Reserves coach after taking the 2nds team to consecutive Grand Finals and a Premiership.  We thank him for his phenomenal achievements and look forward to his continued contributions to this Club to which he has brought such success.

In other exciting coaching news this year, new Assistant Men’s Coaches Stephen Briggs and Kate Burbury will both be working with David to run Tuesday night sessions, ensuring there are multiple supervised drills running at all times.  This is part of our ongoing commitment to making training both enjoyable and valuable for players of every level.

Good luck and see you all soon in 2015!
